[ARCHIVED] City of Lorain Mow Down Program

Mow Down Program

ATTENTION: NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

The City of Lorain is excited to announce that we have launched our Mow Down Program.

This Program is specifically tailored to benefit our local nonprofit organizations as an opportunity to generate additional revenue by maintaining and utilizing vacant parcels city-wide.

Interested nonprofits will fill out an application to adopt and maintain up to 10 parcels city-wide and to utilize as a space to expand the organizations mission through maintenance and temporary installments. Temporary installments may include, little lending libraries, small signs, mini play areas, public art, “I wish this were a…” project, landscaping

installments such as sunflower field, all with the intent to foster and increase community pride while reducing the perception of blight. The overarching goal of the program is to utilize and maintain spaces to reduce the perception of blight. Temporarily maintaining vacant spaces could encourage infill development, parcel combination, or additional long-term uses of the site.

Temporary uses and installments of the site will fall within the City of Lorain’s Zoning Code guidelines for residential zoning and will not exceeded the zoning expectations. The Mow Down Program will run from May to end of September, and installations will be removed by the organization at the end of the season no later than the end of September.

With the help of your organization, we can address some of our communities largest concerns. We hope you and your organization consider applying to our program. Please view a letter outlining the City of Lorain Mow Down Program, an application for the Program, and a list of our eligible parcels here.

The deadline to apply is Friday, June 4th by 5:00 PM EST.
