The Department of Community Development fosters social and economic growth through business
expansion, downtown revitalization, neighborhood preservation and nonprofit partnerships by
administering Federal and State grant and loan funds to benefit the citizens of Lorain.

The Department focuses on corporate expansion and downtown revitalization that creates or retains full time employment opportunities for Lorain citizens. The Department also
coordinates citywide highway planning activities and neighborhood public works projects with Federal funds, resulting in improved local roadways, neighborhood street repairs, public
facilities improvements and park improvements. Local job creation is also fostered through the Department’s cooperative efforts with the Lorain Port Authority to expand the Colorado
Industrial Park. The Community Development Department is also involved with loan assistance to individuals, neighborhood groups and private for-profit businesses to effect local
development projects including home repairs, neighborhood preservation.
