The City Law Director is elected for a term of four years. The responsibilities of the office include:
- Preparing all contracts, bonds and written instruments in which the City of Lorain is concerned.
- Serves the several directors, officers of councilpersons of the City of Lorain.
- Responsible for prosecuting and defending all complaints, suits and controversies in which the City of Lorain is a party.
- Responds to requests for legal opinions received from Lorain City Officers, directors, and councilpersons.
- Responsible for drafting and reviewing ordinances to be considered by Lorain City council.
- Serves as prosecuting attorney for the Lorain Municipal Court; prosecutes all cases brought before the court.
