Mission Statement
To manage and maintain City streets and public right-of-ways and keep them free from hazards
Purpose
To provide the citizens of Lorain safe roadways by means of snow removal and road repair. To remove and repair any hazard that may exist in roadways. To make sure that motorists are free from hazards in public right-of-ways while traveling public streets.
Responsibilities
The Division of Streets is responsible for multiple services and operations within the city, specifically
- Pavement Markings
- Roadway Repair
- Roadway Resurfacing
- Snow Removal
- Street Sweeping
- Traffic Signs
- Traffic Signals
- Guardrail Maintenance
- Removal of Roadway Obstructions / Dead Animals. The City does not remove dead animals that are on private property.
- Removal of Potentially Hazardous Trees
- Emergency storm damage in roadway or right-of-way clean up

About the Division of Streets
The City of Lorain Division of Streets provides maintenance in several areas, including:

Street Maintenance
Asphalt, concrete and street maintenance is completed during the summer months. Routine maintenance includes pothole repair, partial and full-depth pavement repair and crack sealing. Maintenance is completed as conditions warrant and in preparation for future resurfacing projects.
Street Sweeping
City street-sweeping operations are conducted year-round as temperatures and weather permit. Our streets are cleaned city-wide by sections and will increase as needed after wind and heavy rainstorms.
Roadway Mowing
The division mows areas that are within the city corporation limits. This includes center medians and shoulders.
Traffic Signal & Sign Maintenance
Traffic signal and sign maintenance is performed in accordance with the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
